We’re always told that years are roughly the same length, but when I try to remember back to the beginning of this year, all I see is the gray haze of the far distant past.
I spent most of the year working on a game for Choice of Games, but that’s a 2026 thing. More on that when I get more details. It’s an urban fantasy set in prohibition-era Seattle, and it’s going to be amazing.
But 2025?
The Basilisk Painting
First of all, I had one story published in this fine year. It’s called The Basilisk Painting, and it appeared in the July issue of Sally Port Magazine. If you’re nominating for awards, please let me know and I can get you a copy. It’s the story of a painter who wants to paint something that kills you when you look at it, his guard who is also an expert at cooking monsters, and the relationship they build on their magical journey. I love this story and I hope you will, too.
Nicodemia Station Blues
The final All Things Found book also came out this year. Nicodemia Station Blues caps off the trilogy nicely, and I think it’s some of my favorite storytelling in this sci-fi noir universe. It turns out the city’s shady underbelly has a shady underbelly, and nothing good can happen now that it’s well-armed and unhinged. Demarco needs to confront his past in order to save his future in this one, and as bad as he thought his past was, it’s actually much worse.
That’s it! I’ve been busy, and I’ve been writing. I promise! I just don’t have anything else that published during this extra long, extra strange year.
They’re saying next year is going to be even longer.
